Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Student (2013)

"During the summer of 2013, I interned at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program under the mentorship of Dr. Yi-Ching Lee, Dr. Aditya Belwadi, and Dr. Flaura Winston. I performed an extensive literature review on teen risk behavior and assisted in the initial study design for an investigation of the effect of positive reinforcement on teen driving behavior. Throughout the summer, I gained invaluable experience in research design and methods selection.

One of the highlights of my time at CIRP was working with the CHOP IRB to develop the study protocol. I plan to pursue a career in research, and this experience will be important in my future work. In the fall of 2013 I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BSE in Biomedical Engineering and I am continuing my studies to earn a MSE in Biomedical Engineering. In the future, I plan to pursue a medical degree and a career as a physician scientist. The skills and experience that I have gained through CIRP have expanded my understanding of clinical and translational research as well as their effect on public policy and public safety."
