The Human Factors research team at CIRP investigates the factors and development of tools that facilitate the human interaction with systems in a safe and efficient way. Students participating in human factors training at CIRP will assist in conducting research to improve the safety of teen drivers and child occupants in motor vehicles.

Student Responsibilities for Research Methods for Human Factors Training

• Attend monthly project meetings
• Attend regular mentorship meetings (as agreed upon with supervisor)
• Become familiar with research protocols for selected projects
• Screen, recruit, and enroll participants for research protocols
• Perform data management (i.e., data entry and quality assurance)
• Fulfill other assigned responsibilities as appropriate

Necessary Qualifications for Research Methods for Human Factors Training

• Students must be enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate or graduate training program.
• Typical undergraduate majors include Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, and others leading to health professions.
• Typical graduate studies include Engineering, Computer Science, and Psychology.
• Though not required, knowledge of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), NVivo, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel is preferred for CIRP's research methods for human factors training.
