Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Student (Summer 2017)
"Throughout my summer at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, I gained a vast amount of knowledge as a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) student. I was granted the privilege of working with Dr. Kristy Arbogast and Ronni Kessler on the Natural History of Youth Concussions project. My primary focus was on concussion recovery. I performed medical record abstractions using RedCap and CHOP’s Electronic Health Record to analyze the different courses of concussion recovery for children seen at CHOP. This allowed me to gain insight on all of the different concussion studies occurring simultaneously within the interdisciplinary field that is concussion research.
I am currently a rising junior studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami, and I plan to attend graduate school to further my engineering education and to possibly pursue a career in research. Outside of working on the concussion team, I was able to network with many different working professionals at CHOP, and I will utilize all of the research skills and connections I have gained during this REU experience. I am extremely grateful to have been apart of this REU program at CIRP because this has truly been an incredible, invaluable summer."
