"Being a part of the CIRP REU program gave me the opportunity to contribute to meaningful investigations, strengthen my analytical skills, and gain confidence navigating a professional research environment. My project this summer focused on improving how doulas, mothers, clinicians, and community organizations understand and communicate the doula role. Through reviewing literature, analyzing survey data, collaborating with community partners, and developing audience-specific educational materials, I learned how research can be translated into practical resources that support more equitable, patient-centered care. My mentors, Ola Kalu, PhD, EdS and Rachel Myers, PhD, MS, pushed me to think critically while also providing the guidance and encouragement that helped me grow as both a researcher and a professional. I also greatly valued learning alongside my fellow REU interns and, though all of our projects differed from one another, we all shared the same curiosity and passion for research. The combination of the REU CIRP leaders, my mentors, and the other interns created an inspiring community for and strengthened my interest in pursuing work that connects research, communication, and real-world impact."
