Summer Intern (2014)
"During the summer of 2014 I had the great pleasure of interning at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Zonfrillo. My research, focused on pediatric traumatic brain injury and its related sequela, exposed me to the fundamentals of injury research, epidemiology, biostatistics and emergency medicine. I gained invaluable experience conducting literature reviews, performing database queries, and shadowing in both CHOP's Emergency Department and Sports Medicine Clinic. In particular, I was fortunate to assist in the early creation stages of the Comprehensive Concussion Registry with Genomic Analysis, a collaboration between several clinical divisions and research centers found within the CHOP network. Working on this project allowed me to put all these newly learned skills to work.
As a Biology major with a minor in Mathematics at Villanova University, my time at CIRP allowed me to diversify my training into areas beyond the conventional academic spectrum of my courses. I am grateful for the opportunity, the guidance, and the friends I made during my time at the Center and have never been more confident or excited to pursue a career in pediatric emergency medicine and research."
