I was honored to attend the Lifesavers National Conference on Highway Safety Priorities as a Traffic Safety Scholar, where I presented on my team’s ongoing research project: a legal mapping study regarding the accessibility of state-level driving and crash records for research purposes.

"As a graduate research assistant working with Dr. Allison Curry's team, I was honored to attend the 2018 Lifesavers National Conference on Highway Safety Priorities as a Traffic Safety Scholar. The conference consisted of an extremely diverse crowd of public health professionals, law enforcement officers, transportation engineers, citizen advocates, and many others. As a master of public health student, this environment was crucial for learning how to network and communicate with cross-disciplinary professionals who gathered with one goal in mind: to substantially improve traffic safety nationally.

While at the conference I had the opportunity to present my team’s ongoing research project: a legal mapping study regarding the accessibility of state-level driving and crash records for research purposes. I also attended numerous presentations and workshops geared towards reducing transportation fatalities via public health interventions and law enforcement strategies. I am grateful for the connections I made and the knowledge I have gained, and I look forward to collaborating with my new contacts and incorporating the passion I observed among attendees as I continue a career in public health research and advocacy.
