Summer CIRP Student Intern (June-August 2014)

“I had the amazing opportunity to work for the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) from June through August 2014. At CIRP, I worked under the guidance of Tom Seacrist, Dr. Kristy Arbogast, and Dr. Helen Loeb. During the summer, I worked on a variety of projects relating to biomechanics and automotive safety, including an evaluation of the biofidelity of a new anthropomorphic test device (ATD or “test dummy”) in a low-speed car crash test. In addition, I worked in data processing for a naturalistic driving study, as well collaborated with Dr. Saba Pasha in the Department of Orthopedics on an automated x-ray validation process.

My experiences at CIRP have helped me to develop invaluable research and engineering skills. I am taking these skills back to the University of Kansas where I am pursuing Biomechanics Engineering research. I hope to continue graduate level research after completing my undergraduate degree. My time at CIRP has prepared me to confidently pursue these endeavors while giving me irreplaceable insight and experience in the biomechanics field. Thank you to Tom Seacrist, Dr. Kristy Arbogast, Dr. Helen Loeb, and the rest of the CIRP team for sharing your insight, knowledge, and passion for making a difference in children’s lives.”
