The Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies (CChIPS) is proud to announce the release of the 2023 CChIPS Annual Report, highlighting recently completed research projects funded through the consortium.

The 11 projects featured in the report span new topics, such as disparities in child restraint system behaviors, different design features of booster seats that may influence the way children sit, and the dynamic effects of head restraint interference in frontal and far-side impacts.

There are also several projects that build upon prior CChIPS work:

  • investigating support legs (also known as load legs) as an anti-rotation device on child restraint systems and their impact on motor vehicle crashes
  • the epidemiology of child restraint use and injury among children in motor vehicle crashes
  • cognitive control responses among adults and teens (including teens with neurodevelopmental differences) using an imaging + driving + eye tracking protocol
  • the kinematics and kinetics of a reclined, booster-seated child anthropomorphic test device in far-side lateral-oblique crashes.

The release of the 2023 Annual Report coincides with the biannual CChIPS Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting, which is being held this week at The Ohio State University (OSU). IAB members, principal investigators from CHOP and OSU, and CChIPS leadership convened to share updates on the current 2023-2024 research projects and look ahead to Letters of Intent for projects for the 2024-2025 CChIPS year.

We are excited to continue our partnership with our IAB member companies to advance the CChIPS mission of conducting high-impact child safety research in the year ahead!
