The Minds Matter Concussion Program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is a global leader in translational pediatric concussion research. Since its establishment in 2011, Minds Matter has conducted studies that aim to describe concussion across all pediatric age groups with the goal of improving health outcomes for children who sustain a head injury not just in youth sports, but throughout their daily lives.
In honor of Brain Injury Awareness month, we wanted to share resources from Minds Matter researchers and clinicians that promote a concussion-aware community. Providing that community of patients and families, clinicians, school nurses, teachers, and administrators, athletic trainers and coaches with knowledge and education about concussion is vital to the accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of concussion, as well as to shortening recovery time after injury.
These evidence-based resources include flyers, fact sheets, videos, podcasts, and clinical education videos, including:
- Flyers and fact sheets that detail everything from general knowledge about concussion to guidance on returning to physical activity following injury
- Spanish-language fact sheets that explain how concussion happens, myths and facts about concussion, symptoms, and more
- A podcast with Minds Matter Concussion Program Co-Director Dr. Christina Master, who speaks about research, the causes of concussion, and how to diagnose them, in an interview conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Clinical education training and videos produced by Minds Matter subject matter experts through the CHOP Online Pediatric Education Network (CHOP OPEN)
