For the first time since November 2019, leadership, researchers from CHOP and The Ohio State Univeristy (OSU), and Industry Advisory Board (IAB) members of the Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies (CChIPS) were able to convene in person in Philadelphia in March 2022. CChIPS brings together IAB members from industry, advocacy, and government agencies with researchers from CHOP and OSU to conduct child safety research with real-world applications.
A productive Spring IAB Meeting was capped off by establishing the 2022-2023 CChIPS research portfolio. These 10 new projects include continuations of prior CChIPS research, such as a study led by Declan Patton, PhD which will investigate the effect of support legs for rear-facing infant child restraint system (CRS) models on anthropomorphic test device (ATD) injury metrics and a study led by Thomas Seacrist, MBE in the neuroscience of driving space, which investigates cognition-based driving errors and seeks to identify eye tracking metrics associated with frontal lobe cognitive responses during a specific driving task. The portfolio also includes new areas of research, including a project led by Julie Mansfield, PhD which aims to determine how specific booster seat features, including seat pan geometry (booster height and length) and the inclusion of armrests, influence occupant comfort – one of the leading factors in booster selection for both adult consumers and child occupants – in belt-positioning booster seats.
Additional information on these projects and the entire 2022-2023 CChIPS research portfolio is available on the CChIPS website.
