In 2016, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 29 people died each day in crashes involving an intoxicated driver. On St. Patrick’s Day of that year, 60 died due to drunk driving. While young drivers are less likely than adults to drive while impaired, their crash risk is substantially higher when they do.

To help lower this spike in impaired-driving related fatalities on this celebratory day, encourage parents to remind their teens -- whether still at home or away at college -- to avoid the regret, avoid impaired driving. This safe driving behavior also applies to accepting rides from friends who may be intoxicated.
