Human Trafficking Awareness Month
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Inspired by recent news stories about hotel and airline companies vowing to take proactive steps to help prevent and curb human trafficking, today's Flashback Friday post looks back at several resources and blog posts discussing human trafficking:
- Child sex trafficking can and does happen in communities throughout the US. An Uber driver made national headlines a few years ago when he called the police after suspecting his teenager passenger was in danger of being trafficked. Read this blog post to learn more about the scope of the problem, the warning signs, and what you can do to identify and help victims of child sex trafficking.
- Recognizing warning signs and identifying trafficked adolescents remains a challenge, in part due to myths about trafficking, its hidden nature, and the reluctance of adolescents to disclose abuse. In 2017, CHOP's Violence Prevention Initiative hosted a webinar : "Human Trafficking in Adolescents: Understanding the Issues as a Service Provider."

The Polaris Project, a nonprofit organization that works to combat and prevent human trafficking, published this blog post about the unique and critical role of healthcare providers in recognizing possible victims of human trafficking.
