Yansy Salmerón joined the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) as a Clinical Research Assistant II in September of 2019. As a member of the Violence Intervention Program, Yansy works with Dr. Joel Fein and Dr. Rachel Myers to find best practices to help reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress on youth who have experienced assault-related injuries.

Before joining CIRP, Yansy served as a 6th grade math teacher at KIPP Courage College Preparatory in Houston, TX. At KIPP, Yansy worked to prioritize student and family voices in the school system’s decision-making process. She served as the Grade Level Chair for the 6th grade team and enacted restorative justice practices to encourage the growth, healing, and social-emotional learning of her students.

Yansy graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience in 2017. During her time at Brown, Yansy worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Advanced Baby Imaging Lab, where she helped run MRI scans on infants and children. She also served as a Minority Peer Counselor, where she created and facilitated university-wide workshops on structural systems of oppression. Yansy can be contacted at salmerony@email.chop.edu.
